Your Time Belongs to You

We only get so much of it.  I find myself saying I should go to the gym, I should wake up earlier, I should spend time making something healthier for dinner, I should go to that thing I was invited to but don’t want to attend.  I look forward to having some time off, but when I do get a day to chill I’m thinking of all the things I should be doing with that time.

Where does the “should” come from?  “Should” according to who?  And why would the productivity police care what I am doing with my own time, anyway?

If you get a free couple of hours and want to spend them watching ten year old episodes of Law and Order: SVU, then that’s what you should do.  If rotting on the couch isn’t your cup of tea, then you should do what you want.  Because it’s your time.
