Mi Casa Es Su Casa!
This week brought 85 degree temperatures to the Catskills! Our office is situated right on the beautiful Delaware River. Fishing, rafting, hiking, breweries, and concerts make our area boom in the warmer months. Summer is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to see returning visitors and fresh faces around town.
Because we’re in a popular vacation spot, many of our friends rent out their homes through Airbnb or similar short term rental services. Our priority is to look out for you. When it comes to insurance, there are a couple of things to consider before renting out your home. I find that people think they’re breaking some kind of insurance rule when they rent their home out. They’re hesitant to tell me about it, and they think it should be kept a secret from their insurance agent. The reality is, your home is exactly that: YOUR home. You can do whatever you want with it! Our job is to make sure you’re properly insured, and we can’t do that if we don’t know what’s really happening. Airbnb isn’t new, and not being able to insure a home that’s used as a vacation rental is a thing of the past. We work with plenty of insurance companies who can provide the correct coverage for a rented-out home; however, a standard homeowner policy is NOT the correct coverage. As long as we know about the Airbnb, we can get you set up with a policy that will provide the coverage you need. Unfortunately, things happen even to the most prepared people. Sharing your home is fun! Seeing other families enjoy what this area has to offer should be rewarding, not stressful. If you’re thinking about renting your home out this season, let’s talk about it. Making sure you have the best coverage possible will give you the peace of mind you need to enjoy your summer. – Claire Flynn |
