5-9 Before Your 9-5
We’ve worked from home since 2020. In the last three years, I’ve grown to appreciate my morning routine. When I worked in the office, calling my tornado of a morning a “routine” would have been comical. There was no rhyme or reason to me picking out a halfway decent outfit, throwing gym clothes in a bag for after work, and grabbing something for a desk lunch before hopping in my car (that was probably low on gas) and cursing at every school bus and slow driver that was going to make me late. My blood pressure was high before I even stepped foot in the office.
There’s a trend going around that’s called “your 5-9 before your 9-5.” Essentially, people on social media vlog their mornings from 5AM to 9AM to show everything you can accomplish by waking up early. If you think I’m purposely waking up at 5AM every day, you’re nuts; however, I did take something valuable away from this trend.
There’s something to be said about adding some intentionality to your morning before getting swallowed up in the rush of the day, even if that means you’re intentionally sitting your butt on the couch and drinking some coffee. You don’t need to take a three mile run, clean the house, make a fresh squeezed juice, and reinvent the wheel before work every day like the unrealistic influencers do. Waking up just a little earlier can allow you to ease into the day, and it really does make a noticeable difference. Give it a try this week, even if it’s only ten minutes.
